Boolean Query

If you are searching for something that is very specific and rare, Atnio supports Boolean connectors to help perform more accurate search results. Following are the Boolean connectors that can be used:

Tip: Use our “Advanced Search” Interface to speed up your search.

+ money Using a (plus sign) in front of a keyword tells Atnio that the word “money” must be present in the results.

- penny Using a (minus sign) in front of a keyword tells Atnio that the word “penny” should not be included in the results or be given negative priority.

Example: +money –penny (or) money – penny
This ensures that the word “money” should be present in results, but not the word “penny.”

"pc games” Using double quotes before and after a phrase or combination of words, tells Atnio that the phrase or word combination must be present in the results as entered.

Example: "pc games" -new
This ensures that the word combination “pc games” should be present in the search results, but not the word “new.”

AND Using “and” between keywords tells Atnio that both words must be present in the search results. The AND connector is case insensitive, so you can use either “and” or “AND” interchangeably. You must leave at least 1 space between the AND connector and your keywords.

Example: car AND loan (or) car and loan
This ensures that both words, “cheap” and “loan” should be present in results. This is identical to: +car +loan

NOT Using “not” in front of a keyword tells Atnio that both words should not be present in search results. The NOT connector is case insensitive, so you can use either “not” or “Not” interchangeably. Leave at least 1 space between the “not” connector and your keywords. Do not use this connector in front of the first keyword. Use it between keywords only.

Example: food NOT cuisine (or) food not cuisine
This ensures that the word “food” should be present in the search results, but not the word “cuisine.”
This is identical to: food -cuisine

domain: Use the colon connector restricts results within a specific domain or website.

Example: xbox domain:microsoft.com
Atnio will try to find documents about “xbox” from the “microsoft.com” site.

Example: java domain:sun.com
Atnio will try to find documents about “java” from the “sun.com” site.

Complex Boolean Queries

You can use all or any of the above connectors. Following are some examples:

Example:
cake "easy recipe" -chocolate

Atnio will try to find documents that contain the word “cake,” the phrase “easy recipe,” but will not include the word chocolate.

Example-2:
"photoshopCS3 software" "special offer" Atnio will try to find documents that contain the phrases “photoshopCS3 software” and “special offer.”

If you are interested in “special offer” type: "photoshopCS3 software" AND "special offer"
Atnio will try to make sure that both phrases are given the highest priority in its search results.
